Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Blab ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Blab mobile app and website (the "Service"). By using Blab you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

• Account & profile: when you sign in with Google we receive your Google account ID, name, email address, and profile photo. You also add profile details such as your display name, age, gender, city, bio, interests, and photos.
• Photos: profile photos you upload are stored so other users can see them.
• Selfie verification (biometric data): if you ask for the "Selfie verified" badge, you take a verification selfie inside the app. How we handle it is described under "About selfie verification" below.
• Approximate location: we use a coarse location (rounded to roughly 10 km) to show nearby people on the map and to power discovery. We do not store or display your precise location, and the map cannot be zoomed to your exact spot.
• Content: messages, chat requests, Pub table activity, reactions, and gifts you send within the app.
• Device & push token: a device messaging token so we can send you notifications, plus basic technical data needed to operate the Service.
• Purchase data: subscription status for Blab Plus (processed by the app stores and our payments provider; we do not receive your full card details).

About selfie verification. Verification grants the "Selfie verified" badge on your profile. When you take the verification selfie, the pose checks (face straight, turn to the side, smile) run on your device: no face template or faceprint is created, and we do not use facial recognition to identify you. The selfie photo itself is uploaded to private storage, where other users cannot see it. It is reviewed by a human — the operator only, through an internal tool that opens the photo with a link that expires in minutes — solely to decide whether to grant the badge, and it is deleted as soon as the review is finished. We never use it for advertising, never show it to other users, and never sell it. You can ask us to delete it at any time by emailing us.

2. How we use your information

• To create and show your profile and to enable matching, chatting, and The Pub.
• To show approximate nearby people and power discovery.
• To send notifications and keep your account secure.
• To moderate content and keep the community safe (e.g. reporting and blocking).
• To manage Blab Plus subscriptions.
• To review selfie verification requests and grant the "Selfie verified" badge.

3. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with service providers that help us run Blab, including:

• Google — sign-in and push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging).
• Supabase — secure database, file storage, and authentication.
• RevenueCat and the app stores — subscription management.

Other users can see your profile information and any content you choose to share. Never post information you want to keep private.

4. Data retention & deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time from within the app, or by emailing us at hello@blab.app. When you delete your account we remove your profile and associated personal data, except where we must retain it to comply with the law. Selfie verification photos are deleted as soon as your request has been reviewed, and are removed with the rest of your data when you delete your account.

5. Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit and access controls, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

6. Children

Blab is for adults. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified in the app or on this page.
